Save Our Seniors

There are many misconceptions about older cats, and many people think a cat past the stage of kitten is too old to get attached to. In reality, many cats live to their late teens or even early twenties. Adult cats have a lot of love to give, and many wait in shelters, hoping for a home of their own.

When you adopt an older cat, you actually save two: the one you give your heart gets a loving home, and you make room for another cat in need. Click here for ten great reasons to adopt an older cat.

Are you curious about cats' life stages, or want to know what a cat's age corresponds to in human years? Take a look at our life-stage chart!

Here are the current older cats at Cat Depot. Stop by to meet them!

Crinkle, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Crinkle, 9.5 years old

Sarasota County Animal Services found me one day. I have no idea how I ended up on the streets or how long I was on my own, but it was scary. They told me I'm FIV+ and brought me to Cat Depot. Please don't let the diagnosis frighten you - I'm a healthy, big, and friendly boy who loves head rubs. And, my ears are just too cute for words! I look like a Teddy Bear, don't you think?

Between you and me, I've heard some of the girls here say my swagger and handsome persona is almost too much to handle.

Shumara, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Shumara, 10.5 years old

I came to Cat Depot after my owner passed away. That was quite traumatic, but I'm ready to love again. I'm a beautiful girl who loves all sorts of attention - lap sitting, playing with children, playing with other cats, tossing toys around... Come see me, I'll show you what I mean.

Shumara, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Torrie, 8.5 years old

I am a sweet girl who loves a good head-rub. My fur is so soft and I like to keep myself well groomed. Come see me!

Trickster, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Trickster, 10 years old

I'm a cat from humble beginnings. I found my first person ten years ago on the streets of Nashville. Since then I've become a certified house cat, and I'm great at it. I excel at sleeping on couches, and finding beams of light to lie in. Grooming my gorgeous fur would be another way we could bond.

Honey, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Honey, 11.5 years old

ADOPTED!

I am a sweet, gentle, and affectionate girl with lots of love to give. I came to Cat Depot when my owner abandoned me, and I'm hoping to find a new home. I love being around other cats, and even dogs!

Shadow, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Shadow, 9 years old

ADOPTED!

I was brought to Cat Depot because my owner had to go into a memory care facility. I've successfully lived with humans and cat all my life, and successfully worn the same tuxedo for all this time. Don't worry, I keep it clean.

I'm a connoisseur of paper bags. I once spent an entire day in one, just because I could. I also love people and being petted. In fact, I will melt to the ground when you pet me.

Suki, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Suki, 8 years old

ADOPTED!

I came to Cat Depot with my "sister" Trixie. We aren't littermates, but we've lived together for years. She's my best friend. We do everything together and having her here makes me feel better about our owner moving away.

I'm a curious explorer and I can often be found sneaking out of my office in search of an adopter.

Bailey, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Bailey, 11 years old

ADOPTED!

I'm a very affectionate boy who will sit on your lap for hours. I also enjoy sitting on the catio, at least as long as someone's out there to hold me and pet me. I've heard the humans say I have gorgeous green eyes and that I'm handsome. Do you think they're right?

Gizmo, adoptable cat at Cat Depot

Gizmo, 9 years old

ADOPTED!

I can be a little shy until I get to know you, but I'm worth the time it takes to make me trust you. And, I have the face of a Florida Panther, in a hunky and handsome sort of way.
